THE EARLY BITE IN RYEGRASS
Wintas, perennial ryegrass, was bred in Tasmania from populations
originally sourced from high altitude areas of south-west Europe.
It is, by perennial ryegrass standards, surprisingly drought tolerant,
and in cool Mediterranean climates starts growth earlier in late
winter than other cultivars.
At the Elliot Research Station in North-west Tasmania it has consistently out-yielded other cultivars at that time of year in comparative trials. It will grow wherever perennial ryegrass is currently utilised.
